8 Words You Should Avoid When Writing

As always, Orwell’s final rule applies: “Break any of these rules before saying anything barbarous.” There are instances where each of these words fills a valuable role. However, especially among inexperienced writers, these words are frequently molested and almost always gum up the works.

1. “Suddenly”
“Sudden” means quickly and without warning, but using the word “suddenly” both slows down the action and warns your reader. Do you know what’s more effective for creating the sense of the sudden? Just saying what happens.

I pay attention to every motion, every movement, my eyes locked on them.Suddenly, The gun goes off.

When using “suddenly,” you communicate through the narrator that the action seemed sudden. By jumping directly into the action, you allow the reader to experience that suddenness first hand. “Suddenly” also suffers from being nondescript, failing to communicate the nature of the action itself; providing no sensory experience or concrete fact to hold on to. Just … suddenly.
Feel free to employ “suddenly” in situations where the suddenness is not apparent in the action itself. For example, in “Suddenly, I don’t hate you anymore,” the “suddenly” substantially changes the way we think about the shift in emotional calibration.
2. “Then”

If you’re every feeling down, listen to this. Yes it might make you cry, but it will make you smile & feel warm inside.

Everyone should at least once a day listen to this, honestly.

Harvard Creates Cyborg Flesh That’s Half Man, Half Machine

Bioengineers at Harvard University have created the first examples of cyborg tissue: Neurons, heart cells, muscle, and blood vessels that are interwoven by nanowires and transistors.
These cyborg tissues are half living cells, half electronics. As far as the cells are concerned, they’re just normal cells that behave normally — but the electronic side actually acts as a sensor network, allowing a computer to interface directly with the cells. In the case of cyborg heart tissue, the researchers have already used the embedded nanowires to measure the contractions (heart rate) of the cells.
…
Suffice it to say, if you can use a digital computer to read and write data to your body’s cells, there are some awesome applications. If you need a quick jolt of adrenaline, you would simply tap a button on your smartphone, which is directly connected to your sympathetic nervous system. You could augment your existing physiology with patches — a patch of nanoelectric heart cells, for example, that integrates with your heart and reports back if you experience any problems. When we eventually put nanobots into our bloodstream, small pulses of electricity emitted by the cells could be used as guidance to damaged areas. In the case of blood vessels and other organs, the nanoelectric sensor network could detect if there’s inflammation, blockage, or tumors.

Because Pokemon shouldn’t force you to pick a gender you may not associate with.

Oh, just STOP WITH THIS. Do you know how complicated it would be if the game designers had to account for all of the different identity options and every single person’s beliefs or lifestyles? What would the character even look like? Would you have to design your own? What if you wear a hijab? What if you’re in a wheelchair? What if you’re black? There are 1000000 factors where people aren’t properly represented in ANY game. Wanna know why? When you’re playing, it doesn’t have to represent YOU directly. I’ve played as a male and female multiple times. It’s roleplaying. The character doesn’t physically resemble MOST of the people who play. Grow the fuck up, or go to school for game development and make a difference instead of whining on Tumblr and demonizing fucking Pokemon.

I LOVE YOU

THIS!
I’m sick of these activist people who demonize VIDEO GAMES for the SIMPLE question of male or female in the simple terms accepted by most people with damn common sense.
It’s a god damned video game, you’re choosing it for the character, NOT you, on top of that, this is a game that is generally accepted for kids, although I know many in the fandom are older.
You want to be something other than boy or girl in the game? Fine, roleplay that or write fanfiction. Not every damn game has the time or option to account for all the identifiers for other people.
Humans who are activists for this shit. Femimnism, or pick a problem and whine on a social blog need to suck it up and keep politics where it doesn’t belong, because it IS a politic. Stop complicating thew biology of male or female.

Seriously, people like this overcomplicate things like this.
